Born in Mather, PA on Sep. 12, 1931

Ramon A. Maize, 79, of Dover went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 21, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.
He retired in 1993 as a Press Operator for the Times-Reporter.
Born September 12, 1931 in Mather, PA he was a son of the late John and Mary Sokol Maize. Ramon was also preceded in death by his brothers, Harry, Richard, John, Bob, Joe and Don Maize and John Shimo; sister, Virginia Warren.
He was a member of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Dover, American Legion in Jefferson, PA and the Dover VFW. Ramon proudly served his country during the Korean War with the Navy aboard the SS Frank Knox. He enjoyed golf and was an avid bowler having been on leagues at Boulevard Lanes.
Ramon is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karen Johnson Maize whom he married on July 4, 1959; sons, Alan Maize of New Philadelphia, Timothy (Chris) Maize of Dover, David Maize of Dover and James (Ethel) Maize of Uhrichsville; sisters in law, Louise Maize of Dover, Gayle Maize of PA and Joyce Modrey of Dennison; grandchildren, Christian, Timothy, Matthew, Jacob, Jackie, Missie, Kimmie, Kyle, Isabella and Micha; several nieces and nephews and many adopted daughters.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 1:30 pm in the Foursquare Gospel Church at Dover with Rev. David Wing and Pastor Ron May officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Monday from 6-8 pm. Mike Starn's next assignment is in Utah
Mike Starn, who served as publisher of The Times-Reporter for several years last decade, is joining a newspaper group in Utah.
He has resigned his post at the High Point, N.C., Enterprise.
Starn said the move allows him and his wife, Sheri, to be closer to their children and grandchildren, who live in the Utah-Idaho region.

Where are they now: Sarah Grezlik
Sarah J. Grezlik moved on with her future on Nov. 19, 2010. Leaving the TR was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. I'm a history buff and being a part of a newspaper that can trace it's beginnings clear back to the 1870's made leaving even more difficult. I truly did not want to leave, but I have always had dreams of being in business for myself and my dream was stronger than my desire to stay.
On the Monday following my departure I filed for an LLC and started a partnership with Ryan Albright, a Multi-Media Specialist, from Uhrichsville. Our new business is called Malachi Marketing, LLC and we specialize in Marketing Negotiations, Web design, and print products such as business cards, tri-fold brochures, catalogs, magazines and much more.
The name Malachi is from the Old Testament, it is the last book in the Testament. The definition in the Hebrew language for Malachi is messenger, so in essence we are "Messenger Marketing".
On January 1, 2011 we launched our first website, Amish Shop Online. The purpose of this site is to give the Amish a site that will allow them to be on the web in accordance to their individual church restrictions. Each church determines what level of advertising each shop can do. Some can have their full catalogs online and others can only have minor listings while others can have a splash page that tells about their business and how to make connections. Miller's Quality Crafts from Farmerstown is our first client and kept us quite busy building a full online catalog for his wholesale business. It was very exciting to see our dream start off with such a huge commitment.
We have many other ventures in the works and we are looking forward to all of the future successes that are headed our way. As we grow, so will our need for staff that is proficient in the area of marketing, web design and copy editors. We are accepting applications to keep on file for when we are ready to start building our staff.
My husband Ron and I continue to operate a beef cattle farm in the Tappan Lake region and during these cold winter months my husband stays very busy selling firewood. He has customers that come as far away as Canton. Unbelievable considering where we live! They really like the quality of his seasoned firewood and so they will drive the distance to get firewood that actually burns when you fire it up.
I am still very busy keeping up on my "dead people". I bought into Ancestry this year and I have had so much fun finding census records, birth records, death records and even newspaper articles that were published in the 1800's. It has been a blast for me. My mother, Elsie Tatman, gave me the genealogy bug when I was a little girl. She would take me with her whenever she would work at the Tuscarawas County Genealogical Society. In those days it was located in the New Philadelphia area. I can remember at least two of the different locations that it was moved to during the 70's. I have located and recorded almost 9,000 family members in my husband and my family trees.
I have information on one of my husbands lines that dates clear back into the 1400's! My favorite find was the diary of Ron's direct ancestor, Johan Wilhelm Hoffman. The diary is in the possession of the Library of Congress. I sat there and copied every single page! It was written in German, but fortunately for me a Professor had taken the time to do an interpretation of the diary so I copied that as well. It is very interesting to follow Wilhelm's journey as he left the old country and traveled to America to follow his dream of freedom to worship as he believed. They were under severe persecution for their beliefs in Germany and were forced to pay high taxes and to serve the country even if it went against everything they believed in.
His diary documents everything from being forced to serve in their military in the middle of the night to the amounts of the taxes that her was forced to pay. He also talks about a woman who became vocal on the town square about her husband being forced into service the night before and they slaughtered her on the spot.

Obituary: Fred Kollar
George "Fred" Kollar, 87, of Dover died Monday, January 3, 2011, at Aultman Hospital.
Fred was the Press Room Superintendent at the Times Reporter, having retired in 1985 after 36 years of service.
Born September 8, 1923 in Mineral City he was a son of the late Albert and Ann Roberts Kollar. Fred was also preceded in death by his wife, Katherine "Kitty" Kollar who died on April 18, 2006, five brothers and three sisters.
Fred was an Army veteran of WW II where he received two purple hearts while serving in seven different campaigns with over 600 days in combat. He was a life member of the DAV Chapter 67 Tuscarawas County and the New Philadelphia VFW where he served on the burial detail.
Fred is survived by his children, Brenda (Stan) Schupbach of Dover, Rhonda (Allen) Glidden of Lexington, North Carolina and son, Brad (Sue) Kollar of Dover; brothers, Vic (Helen) Kollar of Dover and Jim Kollar of New Philadelphia; sisters, Wanda Ehrhart of Dover and Jane Milburn of New Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, Greg Jarvis and companion Paula Betche, Scott (Debbie) Jarvis, Tricia (Chad) Hicks, Frank and Tim Glidden, Jennifer Swartzwelder and companion Drew Kissling and Kelly (Travis) Smart; 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Where are they now: Nancy Yockey Bonar
Nancy Yockey Bonar here. Found T-R site via Dick Farrell on Lindekin. (sorry for any typos)
I, too, was a T-R brat. In 1946 the Yockey family -- Harry, Martine and siblings Harry MERWIN and me -- moved from Canton to Dover. Dad had been at the Canton Rep (got his first job as a copy boy age age 15), took the sports editor job at the Dover Reporter.
Believe Art Hoopingardner was the owner, Henry Haglock, editor. I remember Jim Lonergan and Jack Shores as GMs, and there was a Paul Postelwaite.
When Dad was Reporter editor, I was in high school, I had a byline for a column, "Dig This Kid." And when, as KSU journalism student I interned at the paper (first time KSU allowed an internship with a relative), I remember the composing room's, Joe (Donato?) coming downstairs to the newsroom, asking me if I really meant to spell J.C. Penney manager's name,Norm Fuchs, the way I had. I'm sure I blushed.
I don't remember when Reporter, Phila Times merged. Do remember very well Jim "Moose" Davis, Norm Singleton, Mizers and too many others to list. Judy was extra special and I'm sorry I didn't maintain contact.
I do exchange Facebook messages with Dover's Larry Froelich who worked for dad before moving to the Akron Beacon Journal. Harry Liggett did the same thing.(I was an ABJ reporter/columnist, 1960-1965, married, had children, went into public relations as an accredited counselor, including to several Fortune 500 companies.
Retired from PR, 1999, do freelance as time allows. Late brother, Captain Harry Merwin Yockey (USN Ret), was a submarine commander, program manager for testing/development/successful Tomahawk Cruise Missile. He was interviewed by ABC when Tomahawks rained down on Baghdad at the start of the Iraqi War.
Thanks to Harry, I dived in two submarines, wrote about the first dive for the ABJ. Now, with the assist of the Submarine Force, I'm writing a sub-themed nonfiction book for the general public. This is my way of educating about the men of The Silent Service who, by the very nature of their missions, receive little or no public recognition. Some of the book sales will go to the more than 20 memorial/museum submarines across the country.
I'm active with the USS Cod memorial/museum, Cleveland. Perhaps I'll see some of there in spring/summer/fall?

I don't remember when Reporter, Phila Times merged. Do remember very well Jim "Moose" Davis, Norm Singleton, Mizers and too many others to list. Judy was extra special and I'm sorry I didn't maintain contact.
I do exchange Facebook messages with Dover's Larry Froelich who worked for dad before moving to the Akron Beacon Journal. Harry Liggett did the same thing.(I was an ABJ reporter/columnist, 1960-1965, married, had children, went into public relations as an accredited counselor, including to several Fortune 500 companies.
Retired from PR, 1999, do freelance as time allows. Late brother, Captain Harry Merwin Yockey (USN Ret), was a submarine commander, program manager for testing/development/successful Tomahawk Cruise Missile. He was interviewed by ABC when Tomahawks rained down on Baghdad at the start of the Iraqi War.
Thanks to Harry, I dived in two submarines, wrote about the first dive for the ABJ. Now, with the assist of the Submarine Force, I'm writing a sub-themed nonfiction book for the general public. This is my way of educating about the men of The Silent Service who, by the very nature of their missions, receive little or no public recognition. Some of the book sales will go to the more than 20 memorial/museum submarines across the country.
I'm active with the USS Cod memorial/museum, Cleveland. Perhaps I'll see some of there in spring/summer/fall?
